Major Joy Filled Announcement

I have a huge announcement to share. And it's one I thought I might never get to make. We're having a baby!

I'm about 27 weeks pregnant with a little girl. She's due July 6, 2014.

We feel lucky beyond measure. After all the obstacles we've faced we actually conceived naturally, believe it or not. We have to keep pinching ourselves. Feeling her moving all around the past few weeks definitely helps make it feel more real.

We have a lot to get done to have our house ready for this little blessing, so I have no doubt the final three months I'm carrying the baby will absolutely fly by. We're grateful to have family help getting everything done.

I'm extremely healthy and so is the baby by all measures.

My blood glucose levels have been in wonderful control. The A1c I had done last week was 5.9. I'll blame the hormones, but I cried when they told me. I had a chance to meet with the diabetes education team at my local hospital for a refresher, and I learned a few new things, too, despite having lived with diabetes for more than six years. They're a great resource.

Coping with my frequent Migraine attacks hasn't been all that different than before despite needing to avoid certain abortives I rely on, namely triptans. I was annoyed that my local neurologist completely punted my care to my OB even after pre-conception appointments with him that gave no indication he wouldn't continue caring for me during pregnancy, but my OB and her office have been wonderful about filling the gap.

I'm more glad than ever that I took the time to read and learn as much as possible about living with Migraine and pre-existing diabetes during pregnancy.

The books I recommend are:

The Woman's Migraine Toolkit by Dawn Marcus & Philip Bain (paperback edition)

The Woman's Migraine Toolkit by Dawn Marcus & Philip Bain (Kindle edition)

Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-Exisiting Diabetes: Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby by Cheryl Aikon (paperback edition)

Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-Exisiting Diabetes: Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby by Cheryl Aikon (Kindle edition)

By the way: In case you weren't aware, one of the authors of The Woman's Migraine Toolkit, Dr. Marcus, passed away last year. I'm so grateful for the legacy left behind by her work. Good, accurate resources about Migraine and pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc. are very hard to come by despite the prevalence of Migraine among women.
