God love him, U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is woefully misinformed about the federal crackdown on pain patients who are using medical marijuana under state laws.

McCain Should Know Truth About Medical Marijuana

Recently, New Mexico pain patient Leonard French was raided by the DEA and arrested for possession of marijuana, despite the fact that he was 100% in compliance with New Mexico state law. Yet, at a recent campaign event, McCain laughed off both the idea that pain patients were being harassed by the federal government and the notion that marijuana serves any legitimate function in pain management when asked his views on medical marijuana by a voter attending his event.

I like many things about McCain, but I am disappointed to see him speak out in such complete ignorance. I truly expected more compassion from him. His views on the efficacy of medical marijuana are simply not supported by the most current research. And while I understand that he is required to keep up on a multitude of issues to do his job as a senator, I don't understand or agree with his willingness to speak out so firmly if he is not up to date on this issue.
