If you only do one thing to honor the men and women who have served our country in the military this Veterans Day, please write your Senators and ask them to support the Veterans Pain Care Act of 2007. This bill will ensure that our veterans who are experiencing chronic pain receive adequate treatment to manage their conditions.

Senators Daniel Akaka (D-HI) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced a bill in the U.S. Senate on October 15 of this year to improve pain care and provide increased pain research for veterans. This bill will address the connection between chronic and acute pain and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and provide for improved assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of chronic pain. The culture of the military can also present unique barriers to treatments for soldiers and veterans, and this bill will support the search for new ways to address these barriers.
