Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy
Although as many as 32 million Americans are affected by migraine disease and millions more by other headache disorders, research on these conditions does not receive much support from Congress when it establishes the budget for the National Institutes of Health. The energy and voices of many people speaking together are needed to cast attention on this issue and inspire change.
Yesterday Reps. Peter Welch (D-VT) and James Moran (D-VA) sent letters to their colleagues in the House of Representatives asking them to sign on to a letter requesting that funding for research on headache disorders be included in the Fiscal Year 2009 appropriations bill for the National Institutes of Health.
You can help by writing the representative for your district to ask him or her to sign onto this letter and support funding for research of headache disorders. You don't even need to know who your representative is right now. Simply follow this link to be taken to a customizable sample letter and an easy to use system for sending an e-mail to your representative expressing your perspective on this issue and requesting support:
AHDA Congressional Action Alert: Increase NIH Funding for Headache Research
Here's the important part: the request letter must be submitted with all signatures by March 19, 2008. That leaves us just one week to contact our representatives and get them on board. Contact everyone you know who cares about or suffers from headache disorders ASAP and send them the link to the AHDA action alert.
In addition to sending a letter to your representative today, you can further support this important effort by signing up for the AHDA e-mail mailing list. You will be notified periodically about other opportunities to write letters to our leaders in Washington in support of this cause.
