FDA Mulls Training for Doctors Prescribing Narcotics

The New York Times reports that the FDA is considering a proposal to require that doctors receive additional training to be allowed to prescribe the most potent narcotics, such as fentanyl and methadone.

FDA Weight Training to Dispense Narcotics

I certainly don't support unnecessary barriers to pain control options,
but prescribing errors and patient misuse have resulted in deaths from use of these drugs. I think requiring additional training before a doctor can prescribe the most dangerous narcotics could vastly improve patient safety.
