NY Times Discusses Therapy by Phone

The New York Times Well Blog suggests that psychotherapy by telephone might be a way to help people establish the habit of regular sessions with a therapist:

I can't tell you how many times I've started the therapy process and quit. It happens the same way every time. I see the therapist just once and leave fully intending to return for follow up appointments on a regular basis. But I never come back even once despite my good intentions.

Perhaps phone conversations every few days would have helped me jump start that therapist-patient relationship that otherwise takes significant time to build.
