A recent research study asserts that children who are overweight have more frequent and intense migraines than average weight kids.

Migraines More Frequent, Intensive Among Overweight Children

In reviewing the information underlying this conclusion, I noticed that the study participants were patients of seven different pediatric headache clinics. This would seem to indicate that all 913 patients were already known to be migraineurs.

Therefore I wonder whether it is being overweight that leads these children to have more attacks or that having many attacks leads to a poorer quality of life and health for them, which causes them to gain weight. It does not seem clear to me which is the cause and which is the effect.
