The federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is planning a prescription drug take back event at locations across the United States on Saturday, April 30th.

Experts used to recommend disposing of old or unneeded prescription medications by flushing them down the toilet or putting them in the garbage. However, we now know this contaminates ground water and creates other safety hazards. Participating in this event is a safe alternative. Some pharmacies offer take back programs, but these generally cost money. This program is completely free. The law enforcement agencies participating in collection will not take any information about you or question you about how you came to possess the substances.

To find a disposal site in your area visit the DEA website: National Take-Back Initiative Site Search.
